REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT
DEPUTY SHERIFF
- Must possess a current TCLEOSE Peace Officer License or be eligible for reactivation of your Peace Officer’s License.
CORRECTIONS OFFICER
- Must complete a TCLEOSE approved basic corrections officer course of at least 80 training hours and be a TCLEOSE certified corrections officer within 1 year of employment.
SECRETARIAL OR CLERICAL
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to type a minimum of 30 correct words per minute.
RESERVE DEPUTY
- Must complete 145 hrs. in Basic Reserve Deputy Academy and pass TCLEOSE EXAM.
- Assume financial responsibility for pre-employment physical, psychological exams, uniforms and equipment.
- Must serve 16 hrs. each month.
Minimum Standards for Employment with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department
Applicant Must
- Reside within a 50 mile radius of Jefferson County Courthouse
- Those applying for Deputy must be at least 21 years of age and those applying for Correctional Officer must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with good driving record and proof of valid auto insurance
- Not be convicted of a felony
- Not be convicted of, or placed on Court Ordered Community Supervision for, a Class A Misdemeanor, Class B Misdemeanor, D.W.I. or D.U.I. in the last 10yrs
- Be subject to a thorough background investigation a by personal interviews by representatives of this department

- Agree to pre-employment polygraph exam
- Complete psychological test and evaluation
- Pass physical agility tests and drug screen
