Drug Money Headed to the Border Seized

On Wednesday, 05/30/2018, at 8:27 p.m., Beaumont Drug Enforcement Agents (DEA) were conducting a surveillance investigation in search of an 18 wheeler believed to be carrying a large amount of drug money to the Texas Mexico border. They located the truck in Lafayette, Louisiana and surveilled it into Texas. With the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Beaumont PD, Vidor PD, Port Arthur PD and Texas DPS, the truck was tracked into the Beaumont area and stopped on IH10 near the 848 mile marker. A search of the 18 wheeler yielded $500,219.00 in cash along with a handgun. The driver was interviewed and had no knowledge of how a suitcase full of cash got into his vehicle. The driver was identified and released. The cash and gun were seized. The investigation continues. We will all continue to put forth every effort to keep drugs and guns off of the streets of Southeast Texas.
