Manhunt Over - Suspect In Custody

This afternoon, 05/24/2018 around 3:00 p.m. Deputies were checking the area of Hwy 365 and Labelle Road while still searching for the white male suspect who ran from Deputies yesterday. A citizen notified a Deputy that they had just observed the suspect in the wooded area East of the Town and County Convenience Store on 365 at Labelle Road. Deputies immediately surrounded the area, assisted by Port Neches K-9. Once they entered into the wooded area, they found the suspect who immediately surrendered. He was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility by the initial Deputies, B. Hazleton and R. Smith. The suspect has been identified as 35 year old James Westbrook of Atlanta, Ga.. Westbrook is being charged with Evading and Felony Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle. Westbrook was caught on a residential security camera in Chambers County approximately 30 minutes prior to fleeing from JCSO Deputies. Items found in the bed of the truck are being checked as a possibility that they were stolen. We are also awaiting possible charges from Georgia where the owner of the truck reported it stolen on May 18th. The investigations continue. We would like to thank the many citizens that assisted the Deputies in the search for Westbrook. It was a long 29 hours! The offer of a dry place for a few minutes while drenched Deputies took refuge in barns, to the offers of food and drink, their kindness, generosity and cooperation was greatly appreciated! #OneCountyOneCommunity
