The Sheriff's Honor Guard was formed in 1994, for the purpose
of providing appropriate military style honors for Jefferson
County Sheriff's Deputies and Corrections Officers slain in
the line of duty and to include officers and deputies slain
in the line of duty statewide or local, if schedule and staffing
permits. In addition, the Honor Guard renders ceremonial honors
for those deputies and officers who die of natural causes
while on active duty and to those who retired. The flag team
represents the Sheriff's Office by presenting the national
colors at Academy graduations, parades, public ceremonies,
civic organizations, and public activities when requested
and scheduling and staffing permits. The Honor Guard consists
of 10 members, 4 who are on the color detail and 6 on the
rifle detail. This is a volunteer duty and those who serve
do so with great pride and professionalism. |
