Health Care Programs

The County Indigent Health Care Program (CIHCP) is a state mandated medical program for county residents that need medical services and do not qualify for other state or federal health care assistance programs.

The County Primary Health Care Program (PHC) is a medical program for Jefferson County residents who meet the 133% FPG income limit. Patients may see the Doctor for $10 but there is no assistance with lab work or hospitalization.

Services Provided

Prescription Assistance Program

This service is available to patients on the Primary Health Care Program. Staff assist patients with obtaining free medications or medications at reduced cost from various pharmaceutical companies.

Basic Needs Program

This service is for the indigent healthcare patients who need assistance with Lights, Water and/or Gas. This assistance is only available to patients on the CIHCP that have a severe medical disability, live alone and have no source of income. In other selected cases, assistance is given on a case-by-case basis.

Transportation Program

Patients on the CIHCP are provided transportation, at no cost, to authorized medical appointments to health care providers, and healthcare facilities. In other selected cases, transportation is provided on a case by case basis.

Pharmacy Services

The Jefferson County Pharmacy provides free medication, in accordance with CIHCP guidelines, to patients on the Indigent Health Care Program.

Pauper Cremation

This service provides a complete cremation. Jefferson County provides for the disposition of the body of a deceased pauper. Jefferson County caseworkers conduct an investigation to determine pauper status.

Immunizations

This service provides immunizations to children 18 and under who are uninsured and under insured. The cost is $10 per visit.
