About Us
The Jefferson County District Clerk maintains the official record of all court proceedings heard in the District Courts. This involves criminal, civil, and family/domestic relations cases.
The Criminal Division maintains case records on felonies and grand jury proceedings. Part of the District Clerk’s duties on criminal cases is to issue arrest warrants, commitments to jail, subpoenas and appeal records. Additionally, we collect fees, fines and court costs.
The Civil Division maintains case records in cases including but not limited to tort, contract, real estate, consumer and tax collections. The Family Law Division maintains case records in cases including but not limited to divorces, child support, custody, adoptions, family protection, and name changes. In addition to maintaining records, the family and civil divisions issue citations, subpoenas, writs, abstracts of judgment, name change certificates, and appeal records.
The District Clerk also manages juries for District, County Courts at Law and Justices of the Peace. In addition, the District Clerk is a passport acceptance agency.
