Mission Statement

Jefferson County's Office of Emergency Management's (O.E.M.) mission is to minimize loss of life and personal injury, damage to property and the environment from disasters. We strive to accomplish this through a continuing program of outreach, coordination, planning, training, and exercising, for "all hazards" and for all four phases of emergency management -- mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

The Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management and Jefferson County Local Emergency Planning Committee or L.E.P.C., is pleased to announce the graduation of our latest Community Emergency Response Team or C.E.R.T. The CERT volunteers completed 30 hours of training over a 5 week period on Saturdays consisting of classroom as well as hands on exercises. The students learned disaster preparedness, small fire suppression, basic structural search and rescue operations, medical operations (including triage and treatment), disaster psychology, terrorism awareness, and a basic instruction on the Incident Command System (ICS) structure in the CERT organization. The 17 students were from Jefferson and surrounding counties. With the training obtained, the students will be better prepared for incidents that could affect their families, neighbors or community as a whole. The Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management and Jefferson County L.E.P.C. will be conducting more C.E.R.T. training as time and interest in the program allows.
